My Review of Freedom's Light:

After only a few chapters, I was hooked – I just had to know more about Hannah, her past, and what was going to happen next!
There is quite a lot going on in this book, including many different characters, which adds to the interest and realism. It’s set during the American Revolution, and you will see points of view from both sides. There are some very harsh realities of both living during a war and the 1700’s. I’ve always had a keen interest in lighthouse keeping, so I really enjoyed those descriptions, and I truly connected with the heroine, Hannah. She is resourceful, hardworking, kind, loyal, and compassionate – all traits I admire.

Most importantly, she was always seeking to do what was right in God’s eyes rather than man’s. (She makes some bold moves!) Now, I don’t want to spill any beans about the plot of this book, but I will tell you that at about the halfway point, I didn’t want to put it down. I highly recommend this book and greatly enjoyed it!!

  • Patriotism
  • Moving forward from a painful past
  • Historical accuracy

Content Notes: Lust, pre-marital relations resulting in pregnancy, and ruin of the woman’s reputation. Mention of rape. Marriage out of fear. Death by hanging. Mistresses, seduction to manipulate men. Whipping. Mention of seductresses in an ale house. Slave ship, death of a slave, prejudice. (This was the most disturbing topic to me.) Childbirth. Manslaughter and suicide. Legalistic/harsh Puritan rules and punishment. Nothing is overtly graphic, no profanity or spice—mild kisses only romance.

Official Book Description (About the Book)

Hannah Thomas believes she’s escaped Galen Wright’s evil intentions by marrying an older lighthouse keeper. Seemingly safe in faraway Massachusetts, her world is upended when John is killed in one of the first battles of the Revolutionary War. Hannah is allowed to continue the difficult task of tending the twin lighthouses in John’s place, though she faces daily disapproval from John’s family. She thinks her loneliness will subside when her younger sister arrives, but she finds Lydia’s obsession with Galen only escalates the dangerous tides swirling around her.

A stormy night brings a shipwrecked sea captain to Hannah’s door, and though he is a Tory, her heart is as traitorous as the dark-eyed captain. Even though she discovers Birch Meredith isn’t the enemy he seemed at first, Hannah isn’t sure their love will ever see the light of freedom.
